Welcome to the World, Miss Hayley!

Ok, Im ready to give the birth story. I've had many people ask but since I just lived it a week ago, I was hesitant to even bother re-living it already.

Thursday, May 15th, we had a dr's appt with Dr Holmes at 8:00am and everything seemed normal. My blood pressure was high but it has been high at pretty much every visit the past 6 weeks. There were only 2 differences and apparently those differences made the biggest difference. :) The protein in my urine was +1 instead of "a trace" and my headaches were a lot worse and consistent. So Dr Holmes came in the room and said, "We're going to induce you today. Just go to the hospital and tell them Dr Holmes sent you for induction and we'll get started." and then he wanted to check if I was dialated any to make things faster so after checking and putting me in tears, he told me that I hadn't been dialated but that he had dialated me to a "1". Oh my heck, we left his office and I cried the entire way in to the hospital.
Once we got the the hospital, they got us to a room and started the pitocin. My contractions were so small for a while and then all of a sudden, one of them was painful...and then another one was painful. It was like all of a sudden, they went from unnoticeable to really, really painful. Dr Holmes came in (this was probably about 3pm or so) and decided that since I still wasn't dialated past a "1", we was going to break my water. Yuck! And I always imagined that when your water broke, it was like peeing your pants and then it was over. Nope! 30 minutes later, I needed to go to the bathroom and so we took all of the monitors I was hooked up to and made way into the bathroom. But little did I know what a freaking mess it was going to make to get up because apparently when they break your water, it just sort keeps gushing every time you switch positions. So I get into the bathroom and dropped the little towel thing they gave me to keep me from getting stuff on the floor and the stupid towel gets tangled in my iv and starts pulling it out of my hand. So I grabbed the iv to keep it on place and I start gushing fluid all over the bathroom floor. On top of that, my feet start slipping and I realize I am about to fall over or lose my iv so I yell for my husband, who comes in to find me clinging on to my iv, trying to stand up, and crying hysterically. So he cleans me up and helps me to the bathroom and back to the bed. THANK YOU, DAVEY! I will forever remember that story, not because it was so amazingly gross but because I've never seen my husband do anything so brave and utterly disgusting for me before. He even almost passed out when they put my iv in. haha. I really am lucky to have him.
Ok, so after they broke my water, I asked Dr Holmes when I could eat and he said since they were expecting probably a 24 hr delivery that he would take me off the pitocin for one hour and I could eat whatever I wanted and then they would start it up again. So I had my mom, Davey, and the nurse bring me food and I made sure I was full in that hour. :)
So Mom decided we needed a picture of all the food I was eating. And for the record, the face in this picture is the epitomy of what drugs can do to a person. I look craZy!

So I got back on the pitocin at like 5 pm and around 6:30 or 7pm, my contractions were painful again so I opted for an epidural. I was extremely scared to get one but Davey held onto me and the anesthesiologist talked me through the entire thing. So about 15 minutes after the epidural, I turned to Davey, smiled, and said "We could totally have like 10 more children. This is the best!" haha. He just laughed nervously and said "We'll see." and then changed the subject. :) So into the night, we waited. At about 3 am, the nurse came in and dropped the bomb. She said if I wasn't dialated any more past a "2" (sorry, I didn't mention I had dialated to a "2" by then) when they checked me at 5am, Dr Holmes had scheduled a c section for 8:15am. Long story short, nothing changed in those hours and we went in for a c section at 8:15am.
So here we are, prepped and ready for the c-section. By the way, the oxygen mask was because my contractions started affecting Hayley's heartrate in the middle of the night.

I was very nervous and delirious and I don't remember much about the c section except Davey asking me what I wanted to eat after we got home. I remember telling him I wanted chocolate milk and Golden Spoon but then I started to cry because I couldn't remember what else I wanted. So he asked me how I was doing and again, I said, "I dont feel a thing. We could have like 10 more kids!" haha.
Mahayla Noelle Maughan was born at 8:53am that morning, May 16th. She was so small, 5 lbs even, and was 18.5 inches long. Here are some of her first pictures:
Her Grandpa Guthrie got to cut her cord.

Her Daddy holding her for the first time.
And this is when I saw her for the first time, a very emotional experience.

They were worried about her size so they took her to the NICU but she only stayed for 15 minutes. I guess I never mentioned that she was 4 weeks early. They took me to recovery and I waited hours to finally hold her.
This is a picture of the first time I held my sweet daughter. She was so tiny in my arms but I am so happy to have her.
After recovery, they took us to our room and the nurse mentioned that I would need to get up and walk pretty soon. I wanted to tell her she was crazy because I wasn't going anywhere. I was in so much pain because the numbing had worn off and the percocet was just kicking in. But as you will see below, the nurse won and we went on a walk.
So after that first walk, everything was about the same. I'd sit in the bed and get up every once in a while for a walk. So here are pictures of the rest of our stay. I'll explain them as they go.
This is sweet Mahayla's first close up picture. She is a doll!
Here are Hayley's great Aunt, Uncle, and second cousins. (Davey's Aunt, Uncle, and cousins :)Here is Hayley and her Grandma Guthrie.
This is Hayley and her Aunt Jamie, my sister.

Here is Hayley's Aunt Karin.
Our little family.

So there she is. Our sweet little Hayley. I am going to post another blog right above this one with more pictures of her. This one was getting too long. :)
